MLB STATISTICS

Projected M/L:

  • Fair value of the moneyline as determined by mathematical models.  This number is extrapolated directly from a projected winning percentage.  Compare this number to the moneyline offered by sportsbooks to identify line value.

Projected W%:

  • The "True Winning Percentage" as determined by mathematical models.

Total:

  • Projected total for the game.

ERA  &  SIERA:

  • Earned Run Average: An incomplete metric that simply measures the total number of runs allowed per 9 innings pitched.
  • Skill Interactive Earned Run Average:  Probably the most complete metric designed around the ERA scale to measure a pitchers skill independent of fielding, luck and umpiring.

FIP  &  xFIP:

  • FIP  |  Fielding Independent Pitching:  Measures what a pitchers ERA should be assuming that performance on balls hit in play were at league average levels.
  • xFIP  |  "Expected" FIP:  Same metric as FIP except it replaces the pitcher's Home Run total with the total number of HR's they should have allowed using league average HR/FB rate.

BA  &  BABIP:

  • BA  |  Batting Average:  Measures the percentage of safe hits against the total number of at bats.
  • BABIP  |  Batting Average Balls In Play:  Measures how many balls hit into play (excluding home runs) go for hits. This number tends to regress to .300 as sample size increases.

BB%  &  K%:

  • BB%  |  Walk Percentage:  The percentage of at bats that end in a walk.
  • K%  |  Strikeout Percentage: The percentage of at bats that end in a strikeout.

GB/FB  &  HR/FB:

  • GB / FB  |  Ground Balls / Fly Balls: The number of ground balls induced for every 1 fly ball allowed.
  • HR / FB  |  Home Runs / Fly Balls: The percentage of fly balls that result in a home run.

wOBA  &  ISO  &  UBR:

  • wOBA  |  Weighted On Base Average:  Combines all aspects of hitting (BB, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR) into one metric by assigning weights to each group relative to their actual run value.
  • ISO  |  Isolated Power:  A measure of a teams ability to hit for extra bases. (Extra Bases / At Bats)
  • UBR  |  Ultimate Base Running: Measures the runs gained or lost by base running.

Record:

  • Wins:  The total number of wins.
  • Losses:  The total number of losses.
  • W/L%  |  Winning Percentage:  Percentage of games played won.
  • SOS  |  Strength of Schedule:  The strength of a team's schedule.  Ranked:  #1 = Hardest | #30 = Easiest
  • Luck:  Wins +/- Pythagorean Record.  Pythagorean record is an expected record based on the team's run differential.

Run Totals:

  • R  |  Runs Scored: The average number of runs scored in each game.
  • RA  |  Runs Allowed:  The average number of runs allowed in each game.
  • R-DIF  |  Run Differential: The average margin of victory (or defeat) in each game.
